The Taranaki Maori Trust Board was constituted by Order in Council pursuant to section 20 of the Native Land Amendment and Native Land Claim Adjustment Act 1928 and on 22 September 1930 the first members of the Board were appointed by the same order in Council. It was set up to receive compensation and has been operating since. The eight Iwi of Taranaki are represented on the Board although the Taranaki Maori Trust Board is responsible to the Minister of Maori Affairs.
